Celebration of May 4th
On May 4, the Ojārs Vāciešs Museum and the Pārdaugava Creative Center invite everyone to celebrate the Independence Restoration Day of the Republic of Latvia in the museum courtyard. From 12:00 to 15:00, there will be an opening of artist Sandra Strēle's exhibition, as well as a concert, discussions, and songs around a set table.
Gathering around a set table in the courtyard of the Ojārs Vāciešs Museum on Ojāra Vācieša street 19 in Riga has become a tradition for the people of the Pārdaugava neighborhood. This year, too, the museum invites everyone to celebrate the 33rd anniversary of the Independence Restoration of the Republic of Latvia.
At 12:00, there will be an opening of artist Sandra Strēle's painting exhibition titled "Kuries, slīpā lietū, mana uguns, kuries" ("Which, in the pouring rain, my fire, which"). The exhibition's motto is a line from Ojārs Vāciešs' poetry, as the artist dedicates the exhibition to the poet's 90th birthday, which will be celebrated on November 13th of this year. The exhibition is complemented by a specially selected collection of poems titled "Mīlestības hronoloģija" ("Chronology of Love") from Ojārs Vāciešs' previous poetry collection "Zibens pareizrakstība" ("Lightning Orthography") from 1980.
From 12:00 to 15:00, everyone is invited to participate in discussions and songs around a set table in the museum garden (in case of bad weather, indoors), bringing their own festive treats. The celebration will be enriched by a small concert by the students of the Riga Cathedral Choral School of the Latvian National Music School.
Admission to the event is free of charge.
