Concert Dedicated to the Commemoration of the 'Baltic Way' Campaign 'Story of Freedom'

On Saturday, August 23, at 5:00 PM, a special event will take place at Rožu Square in Cēsis – the final event of the 'Cultural Circle' project, which will also be a concert dedicated to the commemoration of the 'Baltic Way' campaign titled 'Story of Freedom'.

The concert will feature guests from Lithuania and Poland, as well as local groups, joining together in a common narrative about freedom, friendship, and the power of culture. Musical and dance performances will be presented by the folklore group 'Gastauta' (led by Nida Lungienė), the men's vocal ensemble 'Seliai' (led by Algis Bagdonas), and the women's choir 'Medeina' (led by Giedra Markevičienė) from Rokiškis, along with the song and dance ensemble 'Suwalszczyzna' (led by Robert Sliževskis) from Suwałki. Representing Cēsis will be the senior dance group 'Dzirnas' (led by Dace Šteina) and the kokle ensemble 'Wendenkokle' from Alfrēds Kalniņš Cēsis Music Secondary School (led by Ieva Kalēja). The event will be hosted by Jānis Gabrāns.
The concert 'Story of Freedom' will be both an artistic and emotional experience, reminding us of the unity and courage of the Baltic nations on August 23, 1989, when more than two million people joined hands to form a living chain through Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

The event is implemented within the 'Cultural Circle' project, aiming to promote cross-border cooperation between three culturally and historically rich border municipalities – Cēsis (Latvia), Rokiškis (Lithuania), and Suwałki (Poland). The project confirms the significance of culture as a bridge that unites nations and forms a common European identity, based on trust and mutual understanding.
