Anna Rancāne's Author Evening at Lūznava Manor

14.06.2024 18:00 to 14.06.2024 19:30 Add Your Event

On June 14th this year, poet and politician Anna Rancāne will have an author evening at Lūznava Manor. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear the author's own poetry and reflections on the time we live in, as well as immerse themselves in the Latgalian mentality with the Kadriļu dance group ('Lūznovys Kadriļs'), the voices of the men's choir 'Graidi,' and songs with A. Rancāne's lyrics performed by Sovvaļņīks. A. Rancāne's 'Latgale Chronicle' poems will be recited by Jānis Pampes, an actor at the Rezekne People's Theatre.

Anna Rancāne is a herald of the Latgale awakening era (or has Latgale awakened?) not only because motifs of Latgalian origin are already present in her first collections of poetry but mainly due to the collection 'Advente' (1992), which surprises with its depth, originality, reevaluation of Latgale and Latvian history, as well as with its quiet determination and receptiveness in writing and gathering biographical materials about prominent figures of Latgale: choir conductress Terēze Broka, educator Valerija Seile, and others, living alongside the daily life of Latgale in various media where A. Rancāne worked as a journalist and publicist.

The event's motto is chosen from the latest poet's collection, speaking of a time that is lost and cannot be found, even by invoking Saint Anthony's help. What is the poet's, Latgalian language's, people's, Latvia's, and the world's time like? Let's talk with the poet. In a conversation that took place 10 years ago, when asked to name the things or events that are important in her life, A. Rancāne replied:

'The fact that I was born, raised in the deep countryside, amidst nature, solitude, then Latgalian identity and Catholic faith, also the traditions of the Catholic Church – my mother instilled those early on. It was a given. And good, strong literature teachers, poets of my generation – K. Elsbergs, A. Aizpuriete, H. M. Majevskis.'

There are things that do not change, there are those that are consumed by the river of time, but any encounter with a creative personality can inspire new possibilities and daring. Although this gathering turns into seeds of ideas!'

You are welcomed with your thoughts on time, A. Rancāne's poetry, and our collective desire to live a fulfilling life.
