Aspazija's Poem 'The Son of the Sun'
On July 22nd at 2:00 PM, at the Rainis and Aspazija House in Riga, 30 Baznīcas Street, an event dedicated to the first edition (Dienas Grāmata, 2023) of Aspazija's poem 'The Son of the Sun' will take place, featuring conversations, poetry, and music.
'The extensive poem 'The Son of the Sun' by Aspazija, which has long and undeservedly remained somewhat distant in the Latvian literary landscape, shone brightly in its full version in 1910 in the newspaper 'Dzimtenes Vēstnesis,' accompanied by a portrait of the poetess drawn by Jūlijs Madernieks and a vignette. After more than a century, thanks to the literary historian Jānis Zālītis, art scientist Ingrīda Burāne, and - more than a century later - also the artist Jūlijs Madernieks, this poetic work has finally received its separate book edition,' the publishers say.
On the afternoon of July 22nd, at the Rainis and Aspazija House, an event dedicated to the poem will take place, featuring the literary scholar and researcher of the Rainis and Aspazija Museum, Jānis Zālītis, art scientist Ingrīda Burāne, as well as Rita Meinerte, the director of the Memorial Museums Association. The actress Inga Aizbalte will read Aspazija's poetry and fragments of the poem, while the poetess and singer Elīna Līce will take care of the musical performances.
Admission fee: 2.00 euros; for students, seniors: 1.50 euros.
