Commemoration Event of the Barricades
On January 19th, Kuldīga District Children and Youth Center invites students to participate in the commemoration event of the Barricades - 'Back in January...'. In cooperation with educational institutions in Kuldīga, the National Guard, the Youth Guard, the Scout Movement, the Kuldīga Main Library, and the Kuldīga District Museum, informative and practical task stations will be organized on Liepājas Street in Kuldīga. The aim of the event is to promote patriotism and a sense of belonging to the country, develop civic participation and cooperation skills, supplement and strengthen knowledge about the events of January 1991 in the country when people created barricades around strategically important objects in Riga and elsewhere in Latvia, including Kuldīga, guarding the broadcasting station and the post office building.
The event is open to 9th grade students from Kuldīga District who, in a binding, informative, and practical way, will be able to strengthen/gain knowledge about the time of the Barricades and participate in class competitions for prizes. Each class will be able to complete tasks, earning a specific number of points, which will be summed up and determine the most knowledgeable, skillful, and successful participants. During the event, the 45th Support Battalion of the National Guard will provide a bonfire and hot tea, and there will also be an opportunity to try out the equipment and use the photo booth of the National Guard. The planned time for the event is Friday, January 19th, from 10:00 to 13:00.
