Concert of Ancient Music "Musical Pearls of European Courts" at Bauska Castle
On Sunday, April 2 at 14:00, at Bauska Castle, the concert "Musical Pearls of European Courts" will feature music by Dietrich Buxtehude, Dario Castello, Johann Georg Muffat, Isabella Leonarda, and other composers of the 17th century.
The Ancient Music Department has been operating at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) since 2005, under the leadership of its founder Māris Kupčs. The department is passionately dedicated to educating young talents in the music of past centuries. Education is based on the concept of Historically Informed Performance, which involves researching and performing music and cultural processes. Thanks to the events of the Ancient Music Festival "Vivat Curlandia!" Bauska is often associated with the starting point and turning point in a musician's career. Since 2022, the creative residences of the Ancient Music Department students at Bauska Castle have been added to these events, during which a new concert program is rehearsed and performed for the first time for the audience.
The concert on April 2, "Musical Pearls of European Courts," will also feature young musicians from JVLMA's Ancient Music Department, as well as fellow musicians and students from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre and the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre: Rudis Cebulis, Megija Krista Strautmane, Ieva Sumeja, Simona Jocevičiūtė, Olga Gomonova (soprano), Marianna Puriņa, Aļina Krjukova, Olga Kudajeva, Paula Kovaliova (baroque violin), Sofija Ogarkova (baroque cello), Olga Artamonova, Mihails Pranovičs, Skirmantė Kirkliauskaitė (harpsichord, positive organ), and Veronika Rinkule (harpsichord, positive organ).
The concert will feature the voices of singers and ancient musical instruments: baroque violin, baroque cello, as well as newly acquired instruments of Bauska Castle Museum - harpsichord and positive organ. The harpsichord and positive organ are replicas of historical musical instruments from the late 16th and early 17th centuries, which the Bauska Castle Museum acquired as part of the project "Historical Path: Raudondvaris - Bauska." Playing these ancient musical instruments provides visitors with not only a musical, but also an aesthetic pleasure and an authentic sound.
Admission is free.
Residences and the concert are supported by SIA "Rīgas Senās mūzikas centrs" www.earlymusic.lv
Duration of the concert: 1 hour 30 minutes.
