DEBUSSY. AN EXPERIENCE TO BEHOLD. A Musical Story

We, three young artists – soprano Etīna Emīlija SAULĪTE, pianist Daniils MICKEVIČS, and actor Artis JANČEVSKIS, each contributing in our respective fields, are creating a collaborative musical artwork, a collage, a story.

Through the domains of music and theater, we will narrate the story of the famous and outstanding French Impressionist composer Claude Achille DEBUSSY. By embodying the musician's life story in his own compositions and letters, written to both close acquaintances and well-known artists of his time in various cultural fields, we will reveal not only his outward nature but also his philosophy and deep feelings towards art and life. Love played a very important role in C. A. Debussy's life, and he had many loves. Therefore, our story will begin with a significant event, the rejection of a proposal, which will remind itself again at the end of the concert program.

The concert will feature both Debussy's PIANO MINIATURES and SONGS for voice and piano. A significant portion of the program will consist of a selection of lesser-known pieces. Starting from his very early works and concluding with the later ones, we will traverse the entirety of C. Debussy's colorful life. The concert will conjure a dreamy, serene, Impressionist atmosphere, allowing the audience to reflect on more spiritual values, and for a moment, forget the hurried routine of daily life.
