Drifting in Jekabpils 2024
For the second time this year, Latvian Drift will hold a stage in the Jekabpils region, specifically in Birži at the 'Baroni' Sports Complex from June 15-16, where the Latvian Drift Championship and Cup 2nd stage will take place.
The 'Baroni' track is definitely an interesting challenge for all athletes, focusing not on speed, but on close and technical battles. Both Street and Semi Pro athletes will display their skills. Referring to the 2023 battles, it must be noted that the track is very interesting, visually appealing, and exciting, promising a lot to see.
Registration for the competition has closed, with 55 Street class athletes and 30 Semi Pro class athletes set to start. This means that the drifting at Baroni will span two days, with the main competition day on June 16, 2024, including possibly 3 TOP32 tandem finals.
The competition will commence on June 15, Saturday, with drift training throughout the day, while in the evening both classes will have their qualifying runs.
Meanwhile, June 16, Sunday, is designated as the main competition day. The official competition part will start at 13:00 with the official opening ceremony followed by the main tandem runs of Street and Semi classes. It's worth mentioning that spectators can enter from 09:00, allowing avid drifting fans to attend the competition from early morning. Importantly, purchasing a ticket for the competition on June 16 will also grant access to the event on June 15.
Organizer Jānis Blušs: 'We definitely want to return to Jekabpils; last year's competition was very successful, which is why we are back for the second year. We eagerly anticipate the Jekabpils stage this year as well. All the away competitions are special, with the City's hospitality, the unique atmosphere of the competitions, and the solidarity among drivers. Challenges on this track are plentiful, making it even more exciting, so we look forward to welcoming each of you to the 'Baroni' Drift party this weekend'.
Local athletes will also be seen at the Jekabpils competition. Māris Hartmanis with Latvia's most beautiful drift car, the Camaro, which incidentally made its debut at the 2023 Jekabpils stage. Māris won't be the only representative from the Jekabpils region; there are many strong drifters in Jekabpils, who have been participating in drift competitions for several seasons, boasting good results and carrying the name of Jekabpils in the world of motorsport. In the Semi Pro class, Artūrs Mišķins and Raivis Veikšāns will participate, while in the Street class, the Drift Twins team will be present, consisting of the powerful Street class drivers Ernests Mozga and Normunds Kampe. They also competed in the season opening competition in Biķernieki, along with the lower-level drift car owners Jānis Taukulis and Edijs Minkovs, who usually join the races in the Latgale region.
When spectators arrive at the competition, they will have the opportunity to observe the outer perimeter of the drift track configuration in 3 spectator zones and use the on-site grandstand structure at the 'Baroni' Sports Complex, located directly by the drift track configuration. Spectators will have easy access to the participants' paddock, as everything is situated very close and compactly. Spectators are encouraged to bring their own seats since the spectator hill area provides an excellent view of the entire drift track.
Tickets can be purchased at all ticket service box offices and www.bilesuserviss.lv.
