Judith and Octavio meet in an extreme situation that, as the story unfolds, turns into a “deadly” desert. The war, which Octavio is forced to join, intensifies the desperate fate of their passionate night of love. In this hopeless desire, there is a dominant sensual, desperate longing and an erotic obsession with each other, overwhelming, terrifying, like a caged longing for love.
Franz Lehár's operetta Judith is a musical comedy in 5 acts.
Judith is considered Lehár's finest work and was also the composer's favorite. Therefore, to mark the composer's 155th birthday, it is being staged in Latvia for the first time. For the first time in musical theater history - now also in Latvia!
Judith is a musical tale rich with enchanting melodies, surprising with its powerful intensity and operatically rich music, and is more than just light entertainment. It is an emotionally thrilling, captivating, magnetic, timelessly relevant, fascinating story about longing, obsession, desire, and passionate love. The music of Franz Lehár's operetta Judith (GIUDITTA) touches the heart of every music-loving woman or man, and with its elegant, musical-like production and director Gernot Kranner's (Austria) interpretation, it captivates all generations, especially young people. The director creates the production in tandem with the best specialists in their field to realize his vision: costume designer Alexandra Brandner (Germany) and set designer Herwig Libowitzky (Austria).
This staging of the operetta Judith at the Operetta Theater is based on the acclaimed interpretation of this work by Austrian director Gernot Kranner at the Lehár Festival in Bad Ischl (Austria).
Written for a large orchestra, it includes Lehár's characteristically wonderful, memorable melodies, which are an indispensable part of the concert repertoire of world-famous sopranos, such as the famous aria of Judith, "My Lips Kiss Like Wine," from the 4th act.
