Festival “Percussion Sound Ventspils”
From May 22 to 24, Ventspils will host the first international percussion festival in the Baltics, “Percussion Sound Ventspils”, bringing together participants from various countries to highlight the diversity of percussion and offer unique concert programs.
The highlight of the “Percussion Sound Ventspils” festival will be the visit of the world-renowned percussion ensemble “Elbtonal Percussion” (Germany). The famous percussion quartet will perform in the Great Hall of the “Latvija” Concert Hall on Saturday, May 24, at 6:00 PM, and tickets are already available at all “Biļešu paradīzes” sales points. “Elbtonal Percussion” with their unique approach can transform the stage into a true forest of percussion instruments. They use various instruments – Taiko drums, gongs, marimbas, and everyday objects that gain new life as innovative percussion instruments. The quartet has performed in many concert halls worldwide and will visit Latvia for the first time. The concert will combine classical percussion instruments with creative and innovative solutions, offering listeners an unforgettable musical experience.
The opening concert will take place on Friday, May 23, at 6:00 PM at the Open-Air Stage of the “Latvija” Concert Hall. It will feature internationally recognized percussionists Heigo Rosins (Estonia), Bartek Miller (Poland), Sigits Gailius (Lithuania), and several special guests. The concert will combine classical percussion instruments with creative and innovative solutions, creating a special atmosphere and offering listeners an exciting journey into the world of rhythm.
Continuing in the evening at the Open-Air Stage of the concert hall, a special Latvian and Lithuanian musician quartet will perform. Together with local favorites Agnese Egliņa (piano) and Guntars Freibergs (percussion), the well-known Lithuanian duo Goda Gedvilaite – Gėle (piano) and Pavelas Ginteris (percussion) will play. Exciting, fiery, and surprising musicians and music – this briefly describes this newly created festival concert program. The concert is intended as a highly professional yet easily accessible musical adventure for audiences of all ages and tastes.
The “Percussion Sound Ventspils” festival is organized by SIA “Kurzemes filharmonija” and Ventspils Music High School with the support of Ventspils City Municipality and the State Culture Capital Foundation, in collaboration with the Ventspils Cultural Center, Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, and the Latvian Percussionists' and Educators' Association.
