[En]ter Literature: Guntars Godiņš and Heli Laaksonen
On September 11th at 6:30 PM, Guntars Godiņš will invite Finnish poet Heli Laaksonen (Heli Pauliina Laaksonen) for a discussion. The topics of conversation will be specified. Heli Laaksonen is a Finnish poet who writes in the southwestern Finnish dialect. In Latvian, translated by Guntars Godiņš using the Livonian dialect of the Vidzeme coast, Heli's books “When the Cow Laughs,” “Five Sheep Mountain,” “Soul. Carrot. Water,” and response poems to Aleksandrs Čaks' poems compiled in the collection “You Took My Heart from the Shelf” have been published. In September, poet Heli Laaksonen, together with translator Guntars Godiņš, will work at the Sigulda creative residency and perform at several events in Sigulda.
For several years, poet and translator Guntars Godiņš has been hosting the discussion series “[En]ter Literature” in Sigulda. Meetings have been held with poets Kārlis Vērdiņš, Madara Gruntmane, Contra (Estonia), Inese Zandere, Susinukki (Finland), Sveta Grigorjeva (Estonia), Arvis Viguls, Ingmārs Balodis, Jaan Malin (Estonia), Jānis Rokpelnis, among others; with writers Jānis Joņevs and Guntis Berelis; with translators Silvija Brice, Māra Poļakova, Ieva Lešinska, sinologist Ieva Lapiņa, linguist Valts Ernštreits, translator and poet from America Jayde Will; with musicians and composers Uģis Prauliņš, Juris Kulakovs, Kristaps Grasbergs, and Zigfrīds Muktupāvels; with literary scholars Eva Eglāja-Kristsone, Ilva Skulte, and folklorist Janīna Kursīte; with artist Armands Zelčs. The film created by the text group “Orbīta” was screened at the “Devon” cinema hall, introduced by Sergejs Timofejevs and Artūrs Punte. Discussions about poetry in theater have been held with actresses Guna Zariņa and Inga Alsiņa-Lasmane, and actor, translator Gundars Āboliņš.
