Street Art Festival “ART?! IN THE STREETS AND COURTYARDS”
Event Information
On July 25 and 26, the second street art festival “ART?! IN THE STREETS AND COURTYARDS” will take place in Pegaza Courtyard!
Over the course of two days, artists, theorists, and practitioners from various fields will come together to share knowledge and spark discussions about the significance of art in urban environments. The program includes lectures and discussions about pop-up culture, the meaning of beauty and ugliness in art, as well as the role of visual genres in urban settings. Creative workshops and masterclasses will be held, complemented by musical performances.
In preparation for the festival, ceramicist Rūdis Pētersons will create a special environmental object that embodies the preservation of Latvian craftsmanship traditions and will promote the skills of ancient crafts – an “Source” inspired by ancient Greek culture. At the festival's opening, all attendees will be invited to the presentation of Rūdis Pētersons' work, which everyone can freely view and personally converse with the artist.
On July 25, with the lecture-performance “Beauty versus the Terrible. Who Wins?!” Latvian Teacher of the Year Jānis Rudzītis and artist Agnese Rudzīte will present insights on the understanding of beauty across different time periods and will unveil the “ugly” in art. After the lecture, everyone is invited to participate in a stencil creative workshop led by Madara Matisone, where participants can paint shopping bags, hats, or their own provided textile items.
On July 26, masterclasses will be held with graffiti pioneer in Liepāja – Aleksejs Odnorukovs (Element-ton). Later, all interested parties are invited to the audiovisual lecture “Liepāja's Graffiti and Street Art in Local Context” led by street art observer and enthusiast Rihards Bražinskis and hip-hop artist Jacques Beernaerts.
The festival program will be complemented by musical performances – a concert by the reggae band “2tie” at the end of the first day and a set by DJ Ricardi B on the second day of the festival.
