Estonian Poetry Evening and Latvian Poets in Riga.
On September 4th at 5:00 PM, an Estonian poetry evening will take place at the Estonian Embassy, 8-10 Pils Street.
Poets Triin Paja and Tõnis Vilu, as well as the poet and
translator Guntars Godiņš will participate.
Triin Paja (born 1990) is a poet and translator. She has published five collections of poetry in Estonian. In 2018, her first poetry collection “Nettle” (“Nõges”, Värske Raamat) was awarded the Betti Alver Prize, and in 2020, her poem
“The Night is Dark as Sisters' Hair” received the prestigious Juhan Liiv Poetry Prize.
Triin also writes and publishes poems in English. In 2025, a selection of her poetry in English was published by Wolfson Press.
Tõnis Vilu (born 1988) is the author of nine poetry collections. In 2021, his book “Education of the Senses” received the Estonian Cultural Endowment's literature award of the year. Tõnis Vilu lives in Tartu, and this year he received the Tartu City Writer's Scholarship, awarded for outstanding achievement in literature.
At 5:30 PM, there will be an author's evening with Arvis Ostups at the RCB branch library “Torņkalns.”
Meanwhile, at 6:00 PM at the Jānis Akuraters House-Museum, J. Akuraters's fellow townsmen - Ronalds Briedis, Ruta Štelmahere, and Arvis Viguls will perform.
