Jānis Šipkēvics and Reinis Zariņš. Latvians.
At the heart of this program is the extensive cycle "White Songs" by the multiple-time winner of the Great Music Award, Andris Dzenīšs, with lyrics by Aleksandra Lines. Initiated in the shadow of the pandemic and concluded at a time when life around us unfolds in cruel distress, this work emerged as a "need for soothing, sheltering music akin to a warm, very close personal embrace. Music and words here speak and narrate the good in our surroundings, positive and admirable human qualities - truth, love, courage, openness, honesty, justice, respect, sacrifice, presence, solace. Without exaggeration, without drama, allowing the listener to feel as if in a spiritual sanctuary, inclusion." Thanks to this particular composition, two of the brightest musicians of their generation performed together on stage for the first time last year - the captivating voice owner, Jānis Šipkēvics, versed in diverse genres, and the thoughtful interpretation master pianist, Reinis Zariņš. In the reading of Benjamin Britten's "Second Canticle," they will be joined by Mārtiņš Klišāns to together narrate in music about Abraham's beautiful faith before God. The program will also be enriched by Krista Auznieka's poetic piano piece Carmine and excerpts from Šipkēvics' work.
