Concert Performance 'On the Road'
The road, this symbol of movement, lures with new experiences and adventures, generously offering beauty and the fulfillment of dreams, is also a symbol of freedom. It is the enchantment of the essence of the road – leaving everyday routines behind and forgetting about them, because memories are excess baggage on the road. The road accumulates new emotions, which later turn into memories; on the road, one sets off with readiness to explore the unknown, both in the world and within oneself. On the road, we celebrate the life that freedom offers.
We will celebrate life by inviting everyone to embark on the journey together with the concert performance 'On the Road'. And the theater wants to bring this free atmosphere to the audience as well. Visitors of the concert performance at Dailes dārzs are allowed to enter with drinks from the theater café.
Our road signs will be the beats or beatniks, the counterculture of the 1950s, the Bible - Jack Kerouac's novel 'On the Road'. Published in 1957 and becoming a bestseller, it proclaimed personal freedom, nonconformity, and the search for truth. It is a journey permeated by poetry, drugs, and youth, in which existence is celebrated because the anxiety and fear caused by World War II created a feeling that death is closer than life. Kerouac said that it only took him three weeks to write the novel, but seven years to live it. He will forever remain 47 because in 1969, death defeated life, but this year we celebrate Jack Kerouac's centenary.
Our warm companion on the journey will be music and words. Singer Aija Vītoliņa, actors Klāvs Kristaps Košins and Niklāvs Kurpnieks, musicians Rūdolfs Dankfelds, Miķelis Putniņš, Romāns Vendiņš, Toms Poišs, and Dāvis Jurka will immerse us in jazz vibes, performing songs by the classics Chet Baker and Ella Fitzgerald, as well as indulging in the 20th-century musical compositions of the Beat Generation's ideals, including music by 'The Doors', Patti Smith, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, and many others.
