Concert Performance CLAY

On August 16th and 17th at 10:00 PM, a multimedia concert performance titled “CLAY” will take place in Cēsis, where song, dance, craftsmanship, and industry will merge into a unified story about the journey of clay from the depths of the earth to the stars. It is a tale of the nature of clay and its presence in human life, showcasing its diversity, changeability, and applications.

The story of the concert performance “CLAY” will be brought to life by 2000 participants, including the music groups “Auļi” and “Latvian Voices”.

Legend has it that God created man from a lump of clay. Man baked bread in a clay oven, drank a sip of water from a clay mug, and warmed himself by a clay tile stove. He walked on clay floors, built a house from bricks, and roofed it with clay tiles. Clay – rising from the depths of the earth to the skies.

In the concert performance “CLAY”, eras, historical evidence, geological proofs, and human artistic interpretation will converge. It will dive into the Devon clay valley, appear in the clay cuneiform writings of Mesopotamia, and transform into a contemporary adventure that 2000 participants of various genres will experience by blending art, craftsmanship, and industry in the performance.

The musical framework utilizes diverse sounds of clay instruments – clay marimba, wind pipes, and ocarinas, complemented by the technical noises of urban production. Choral singing will intertwine with brick stacking stomp etudes. Dance patterns will be interwoven with the molecular formula of clay. The music will reflect the deep sound of the earth's depths and the ambient sound of clay crystals. Special scenography and video visualizations will allow one to experience historical testimonies and enjoy the sensual taste of clay.
