Lāčplēsis Day in the South Kurzeme Region

The South Kurzeme region offers several opportunities for those considering where to spend Lāčplēsis Day, with each locality celebrating this day together with friends, family, and their nation.

 

GROBIŅA

At 6:00 PM, a torchlight procession in Grobiņa to the steles in memory of the Knights of the Order of Lāčplēsis. Gathering with torches at Dzērves Square. After the procession, warm tea and the post-folk group “Piemares Kurši”.

AIZPUTE

At 6:00 PM, a torchlight procession in Aizpute to the steles in memory of the Knights of the Order of Lāčplēsis (route: Atmodas Street – Kalvenes Street – Upes Street). Gathering at Aizpute TIC.

At 7:00 PM, a concert by violinist Edgars Ziņģe at Aizpute's St. John's Lutheran Church. Free entry.

NĪCA

At 5:00 PM, a torchlight procession in Nīca. Gathering at 4:50 PM at Nīca Secondary School's basketball court (route: Skolas Street – Bārtas Street – Nīca Lutheran Church). Bring torches.

PĀVILOSTA

At 4:40 PM, a memorial moment for the soldiers who fell in the Latvian War of Independence at Stembres Cemetery in Pāvilosta.

At 5:00 PM, the creation of a path of light at Pāvilosta Primary School, with a torchlight procession from the primary school to the music school.

DURBE

At 6:00 PM, a torchlight procession in Durbe to Priediena Cemetery. Gathering at Durbe Church Square. From 4:00 PM, placement of lights and lanterns on Durbe Church walls.

MEDZE

At 5:00 PM, a torchlight procession in Medze Parish (route: Medze Parish Cultural House – Mātras Methodist Church), opening of Guntars Zariņš's photographic collection exhibition. Gathering at 4:00 PM at Medze Cultural House. Bring a torch, lantern, or candle.

VAIŅODE

At 6:00 PM, a torchlight procession in Vaiņode and the creation of power symbols from candles.

CĪRAVA

At 7:00 PM, the film “The Land that Sings” at Cīrava Cultural House.
