Latvian Radio Big Band: An Evening of American Jazz
With this concert, Latvian Radio Big Band starts a new concert series, inviting listeners to reflect on the 'golden heritage' of the big band genre and its most significant jazz icons, both in Latvia and worldwide! The concert will introduce the audience to the composer, trumpeter, and big band leader Thad Jones, who is rightfully considered not only one of the greatest jazz trumpet soloists of all time but also an extremely important figure in big band music.
Thad Jones began his journey in the genre of big band music with the legendary Count Basie Orchestra and later became its leader. However, in his arranging style, he always stood out with something unique and unprecedented - he was always able to combine the rhythms of 60s popular music, such as rock and roll and rhythm'n'blues, with jazz and swing harmony.
