Mammoths Grazed in Lejasciems. Once.
On September 26th at 6:00 PM, the Poetry Days event “Mammoths Grazed in Lejasciems. Once.” will take place, featuring poets Valts Kleins and Zane Brūvere.
Valts Kleins is an internationally recognized Latvian photo artist and artist. Author of over 40 photo exhibitions both in Latvia and abroad (Canada, Scandinavian countries, etc.). In the 1980s and 1990s, known as a representative of socially critical documentary photography. He has written reviews on photographic art and exhibitions for the magazines “Māksla” and “Fotokvartāls”. He began publishing poetry in 2025 and is a member of the poetry group “Syntax Stupor”. This year, he performed poetry readings at the “Troubadour” festival.
Zane Brūvere is a poet and editor, head of the Valkas District Literary Association, and leads poetry workshops for children. In 2018, the poetry collection “Brūveri Brews” (together with Pēteris and Indra Brūveri) was published. The book won 3rd place in the Children's, Youth, and Parents' Jury, as well as the Delfi Readers' Choice Award. Since 2002, she has published articles, reviews, translations, and poems in newspapers and magazines “Diena”, “Cultural Forum”, “Flag”, “Clean Draft”, “New Course”, and others, as well as in the poetry yearbook “Long Bean”.
During the poetry evening, the authors will read their poetry and invite the audience to a conversation. The event will be enriched by saxophonist Jānis Upītis.
