On Saturday, August 23, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM, everyone is invited to a particularly diverse and exquisite festival day at Lielstraupe Castle! This will be a day when the historic castle walls will once again resonate with music, wooden toys and crowns will be crafted in workshops, and jazz and drinks will be enjoyed in the castle courtyard. Entry to the event is free of charge.
This year's festival will feature musical performances, exhibitions, and discussions with restorers in the ancient courtyard, church, and halls of the castle. A special event will be the first tower music ‘play across the courtyard’, bringing the unique architecture to life in a new way.
Castle Festival Program on August 23
12:00 PM and 2:00 PM:
– Tower music – playing across the courtyard for the first time
Riga Sackbut Consort & Riga Cathedral Choir School Recorder Ensemble
From 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM:
– Medieval snacks and wooden toy crafting workshops;
– Princess crown sewing;
– Archery in the castle courtyard.
From 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM:
– Medieval kitchen;
– Castle cake stand.
1:00 PM at Straupe Church:
– Concert “Passions of Baroque Music” with Inga Šļubovska-Kanceviča and musicians
3:00 PM:
– International restorers on discoveries in the Great Hall ceiling paintings of the castle
3:30 PM:
– Jazz and drinks in the castle courtyard
5:00 PM at Straupe Church:
– Estonian Early Music Ensemble “Floridante”
Throughout the day in the castle premises:
– Exhibition and creative workshop by Elizabete Melbārde;
– Art exhibition by Līga Vaivare.
