Midsummer Celebration in Balvi District

This year, Balvi District offers a wide program for the Midsummer celebrations in several cities and villages. If you haven't decided yet where to go with family and friends to celebrate the Summer Solstice, remember - Balvi District invites you to join them!

The festivities will last for 3 days. The expected program is as follows:

21st June:

Bērzkalne Parish:

8:00 PM Midsummer celebration at the Bērzkalne stage.

Kuprava Parish:

11:00 AM At the Kuprava Parish Administration, workshop "Welcoming the Solstice".

5:00 PM Solstice celebration "All My Beautiful Songs" at the Kuprava Parish Administration with Viļaka Cultural Center folklore group "Atzele" and Kuprava ethnographic ensemble.

Lazdukalns Parish:

6:00 PM Midsummer welcome at the Lazdukalns Community Center with local artisans and chapel music.

Šķilbene Parish:

8:00 PM Midsummer celebration "Ontona Slišāna duorzs" in Upītes Park with songs, games, and dances with the folklore group "Upīte" and children's folklore group "Upīte".

10:00 PM Traditional event "Pīdzīdam'' at the Upītes Stadium. Special guest: Andris Kivičs. On stage: ''Wackenbird'' (Dagda), ''Marysana band'' (Rēzekne), ''Māgas'' (Madona), ''Skameth'' (Daugavpils). Intervals featuring: ''Unknown Artist'', ''Kei-Rei'', ''Naktenīks i Reiti'', folklore group "Upīte".

Entry fee: 7,00 euro, on the day of the event 10,00 euro.

Tilža Parish:

From 7:30 PM Summer Solstice preparations at the Tilža Outdoor Stage - making wreaths, arranging bonfires, decorating, cooking barley porridge, and singing songs.

9:00 PM Summer Solstice traditional songs and Latvian dances at the Tilža Outdoor Stage with the band ''Dziga''.

Vectilža Parish:

10:00 AM Midsummer cheese-making workshop at the Vectilža Sports and Recreation Center.

22nd June

Baltinava Parish:

7:00 PM Tribute to the Midsummer at Baltinava Park Stage with the vocal ensemble ''Cansone'' from Viļaka.

Amateur theater performance ''Sīvasmuotes lobuo sirds''.

Entry - donation: 1,00 euro.

10:00 PM Green ball at Baltinava Park Stage with Arnis Grapa.

Entry fee: 3,00 euro.

Bērzpils Parish:

10:00 PM Green ball at Bērzpils Parish Stage with Juri Ķirsons.

Entry fee: 5,00 euro.

Krišjāņi Parish:

From 10:00 AM Green festival market at Krišjāņi Community Center.

Vectilža Parish:

7:00 PM Annual traditions, folk group sing-along at Vectilža Sports and Recreation Center.

Lazdulēja Parish:

7:00 PM Midsummer celebration at Lazdulēja Stage.

23rd June

Balvi:

From 6:00 PM Various activities in Balvi City Park, inflatable attractions for children, horse and pony rides, wreath-making workshop, bonfire lighting, and Midsummer song singing with folk musicians.

7:00 PM Midsummer event ''Brīnumu zālīte'' at Balvi City Stage.

10:00 PM Midsummer green ball at Balvi City Stage with Juri Ķirsons.

Viļaka:

5:00 PM Viļaka City Stage celebration of Adulthood with special guest Jānis Moisejs.

From 8:00 PM Green market with beer, cheese, and other delicacies (homemade producers can apply by calling 29294593).

8:30 PM Vectilža amateur theater ''Melnais kaķis'' with A. Grīniece's play ''Līgošanas nerātnības'', followed by bonfire lighting and dances with the folklore group ''Upīte''.

10:00 PM Disco ball at Viļaka City Stage with DJ Ingars.

Tilža Parish:

10:00 PM Green ball at Tilža Outdoor Stage with the band ''Draugi''
