Museum Night at Ojārs Vācietis Museum 2025
The Ojārs Vācietis Museum (Riga, Ojāra Vācieša Street 19) invites you to Museum Night on May 17th from 16:00 to 24:00. This year's theme for Museum Night at Ojārs Vācietis Museum is inspired by Ludmila Azarova's quote “And so I live inside a cello,” in honor of the 90th anniversary of the poet, translator, public figure, and Ojārs Vācietis's spouse.
As usual and beloved, the Museum Night program features both the “Eight Creatures Festival” and film evenings, concerts, and exhibitions, as well as poetry appreciation, calls to the poet, and fragrant lilac clouds by Lake Māra.
Since 1993, the Ojārs Vācietis Museum (in Riga, Ojāra Vācieša Street 19) has annually hosted the “Eight Creatures Festival” for children, as Ojārs Vācietis's poetry remains an integral part of the upbringing of anyone who grows, learns to read, and explores the world of poetry.
This year, we also invite local children and parents to celebrate the “Eight Creatures Festival” during Museum Night on May 17th, from 16:00 to 19:00.
The festival will feature the Jaunpiebalga folklore group “Piebaldzēni” (led by Ieva Damroze), who will delight Riga's children with folk songs and games at 16:00, leading them along the path of folk songs and games.
In the creative workshop from 17:00 to 18:00, enjoy the pleasures of drawing in “A Dream in the Pocket” with artist Katrīna Ķīse and the museum's muse Dora Pauzere.
From 18:00 to 18:40, characters from Roze Stiebra's animated films will intertwine with music in the program “Dear Little Speckles,” featuring songs from the Riga Cathedral Choir School girls' choir TIARA's musical performance “Feel Like Fooling Around a Bit.” The concert is dedicated to the memory of director Roze Stiebra.
The Museum Night program theme “And so I live inside a cello” from 19:00 to 24:00 will richly provide insight into our core values - the life and creative environment of Ojārs Vācietis, where the poet lived with his family from 1960 to 1983. Throughout Museum Night, there will be an opportunity to view the memorial rooms.
From 20:00 to 21:00, joint poetry readings with Museum Night guests are expected, and three exhibitions will be on display – “Reflections. Echoes,” “Gauja Mosaic,” and “Trinkets and Faces.”
The beloved film evening is also expected, where from 19:00 to 23:00, documentary films with a unifying theme of Ojārs Vācietis will be shown.
