Museum Night “The Story of the Inkwell”

On May 17 from 8:00 PM, the Rainis Museum “Jasmuiža” (in Aizkalne, Preiļi Municipality) invites you to the Museum Night event “The Story of the Inkwell,” where there will be an opportunity to learn more about one of the rare authentic items from Rainis' youth years in “Jasmuiža” – the inkwell, make invisible ink, and write your own secret mysterious letter, meet with “O! Jezups' Band!”, and participate in the creation of the express exhibition “The Story of Special Items.” Throughout the evening, the museum's exhibitions and displays will be available for viewing.

8:00 PM visitors can get acquainted with the story of the inkwell that belonged to Rainis in his youth and make ink from natural ingredients to write a secret mysterious letter, which the recipient can only read using a special technique.

9:00 PM the amateur theater group “O! Jezups' Band!” will visit “Jasmuiža”. One can learn the reason behind such an unusual name and glimpse into scenes from Mirttante's life.

After the performance, every visitor who has a special item, family heirloom, or object worthy of being displayed in the museum's express exhibition is invited to bring it along and introduce the museum visitors to the story of their significant item.

Additionally, throughout the evening until midnight, the Latgale ceramics exhibition “From Whistle to Candlestick,” the exhibitions “Greetings to Rainis,” “Bears and Other Friends of Mine,” and the exhibition dedicated to Rainis will be available for viewing.

This year marks the 21st occurrence of Museum Night in Latvia, and the unifying theme this year is “Stories of Our Values.”
