In the Footsteps of Rainis and Aspazija in Talsi. Facts. Mysteries. Hypotheses
On February 18 at 5:00 PM, the second part of Gundega Grīnuma's lecture “In the Footsteps of Rainis and Aspazija in Talsi. Facts. Mysteries. Hypotheses” will be held at the Rainis and Aspazija House in Riga, Baznīcas Street 30.
The presentation will begin with a brief overview of the trip to Talsi made by the Minister of Education of Latvia, Rainis, as seen through his own eyes, those of the writer Kārlis Tīfentāls (Dziļleja), and local newspapers (1927). Attendees will also learn about the previously unidentified author of the Rainis bust in the Talsi Main Library collection, followed by an exploration of the historical development of the city's former Krievraga II line, known since 1927 as Aspazija Street. The primary thematic focus of the lecture will be on the direct and epistolary mediated interactions of “The Silver Veil” author and her niece, Virēna Rozenberga, who was closely linked to Talsi, during their early rapprochement, and the poet's contacts with Virēna's prematurely deceased cousin, Verēna Tīle. Lastly, the lecture will sketch the private and political backgrounds of what is believed to be Aspazija's only, yet previously unexplored by literary researchers, visit to Talsi (1935).
Entrance fee: 2.00 EUR. For pupils, students, and seniors: 1.50 EUR.
