Hike Veczemju Cliffs – Svētciems

The sixth stage of the Vidzeme coastal Jūrtaka hiking series Veczemju Cliffs – Svētciems

Date: August 30th, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Meeting time and place: 10:10 AM, “Lejasozoli”, Salacgrīva parish (departure to the starting point at 10:30 AM)
Length: ~13 km
Surface: Gravel, sand, stones of various sizes, pebbles.
Good to know! Stones covered with algae are slippery. Many stones are “movable”. Suitable closed-type footwear and poles for support are recommended as necessary.

The sixth stage of the hike will start at the picturesque Veczemju Cliffs and end in Svētciems, by the Svētupe lamprey weir. The path will mainly lead along the sandy beach by the sea, but we will also feel stones underfoot in some places. Where the beach is crossed by the Vitrupe and Svētupe rivers, the route will take us on a small detour through the forest and along an asphalted bike path to safely bypass the river mouths. At the finish, we will meet the hosts of the Svētupe lamprey weir, who will tell us about lampreys, their fishing in Svētupe, and how the weir is built. There will be an opportunity to taste lamprey soup (cost 5.00 EUR/person).

Transport:

To the hike:

Public bus from Riga (Riga – stop “Oltūži” – Ainaži): 8:30 AM – 10:29 AM. Note: Upon disembarking at the stop, you need to cross the road and go to the parking area on the opposite side. You need to wait for the common bus that will take participants from the finish to the starting point.

Public bus from Ainaži (Ainaži – stop “Līdumi” – Riga): 9:00 AM – 9:25 AM. Note: You will disembark at the finish point, where the common bus will take you to the starting point.

From the hike:

Public bus to Riga (Ainaži – stop “Līdumi” – Riga): 5:02 PM – 7:00 PM (you need to walk from the Svētupe lamprey weir to the A1 highway (stop), ~1.3 km).

Public bus to Ainaži (Cēsis – stop “Līdumi” – Ainaži): 3:55 PM – 4:20 PM (you need to walk from the Svētupe lamprey weir to the A1 highway (stop), ~1.3 km).

The event organizer will provide a bus that at 10:30 AM will take participants from the finish point (Svētciems) to the starting point (Veczemju Cliffs). Please arrive on time and do not delay.

For participants arriving by car:

To have your car ready at the end of the hike, we suggest the following:

1. Drop off all passengers at the starting point – campsite “Klintis” (gathering at the campsite parking lot, near the ticket office).
2. Drivers proceed by car to the finish point – “Lejasozoli”, Salacgrīva parish.
3. Organizers will transport drivers back to the starting point, and the hike can begin with everyone together.
