On April 11 at 4:00 PM, the Ojārs Vācietis Museum (Riga, Ojārs Vācietis Street 19) invites you to “An Afternoon with Ludmila Azarova” to commemorate the 90th birthday of Ludmila Azarova – poet, translator, public figure, and the spouse of Ojārs Vācietis.

During the event, Māra Zālīte will speak about Ludmila Azarova's dedication to the Latvian language and their joint work in the State Language Commission. Architect Pēteris Blūms will recall his long-term collaboration with Ludmila, as they shared an interest in the history and architecture of Pārdaugava. The multifaceted work of the translator will be evaluated by poet Arvis Viguls.

“All these diverse strings resonate in Ludmila Azarova's poetry – afternoon guests will have the opportunity to experience this by listening to the musical poetry composition “The Black Stork” performed by Zane Daudziņa and Melisa Kaškura,” says Ieva Ķīse, director of the Ojārs Vācietis Museum.

“She is a sovereign personality,” said academician Jānis Stradiņš, when he opened an exhibition dedicated to Ludmila at the museum 15 years ago titled “Enchanted by the Lake of Māra”. The exhibition is special as it was created in close collaboration with Ludmila Azarova herself. Now, this exhibition is again on display in the Robinson Hall and the living room of the museum.

A tribute to Ludmila Azarova's 90th birthday is also the already opened exhibition “366 – Daily Art” by Marta Andersone, Ludmila Azarova, and Ojārs Vācietis's granddaughter.

Entry to the event is free of charge.
