Piano Day
On March 28th this year, in Riga, at the cultural space 'Hanzas perons', the international Piano Day will be celebrated. This event has been taking place since 2015, when, following the initiative of German pianist Nils Frahm, everyone worldwide was invited to honor this instrument and the music created for it.
The evening will begin with a discussion led by journalist Gundars Rēders titled 'One Against One Against Another', where attendees can learn about piano building traditions and innovations. Following that, there will be a concert featuring pianist Rihards Plešanovs performing a reading of composer Dmitri Shostakovich's first twelve Preludes and Fugues (Op. 87) on at least two different instruments.
The watercolors used in the visual identity of Piano Day at 'Hanzas perons' were specially created for this event by artist and gallery owner Kaspars Groševs.
Everyone interested in piano playing and music is warmly invited to attend, to broaden their knowledge of music and enjoy a unique style of performance.
