Experience the Summer Solstice Celebration

On June 19th at 18:00, the Krišjānis Barons Museum (Krišjāņa Barona Street 3-5, Riga) and the tradition group “Budēļi” invite you to celebrate the summer solstice with the event “Experience the Summer Solstice!”.

“Experience the Summer Solstice” has been led for 12 years since 2002 by folklorist, singer, musician, and composer Ilga Reizniece. For over a decade, she has taught the true traditions of the summer solstice, sparking a revival of Latvian traditions wherever Latvians live.

“Hundreds of places in Latvia learned to celebrate the Summer Solstice, make cheese, brew beer, and take care of festive attire. The collective of the Krišjānis Barons Museum is delighted that back in that distant year of 2002, Ilga invited us to participate in this beautiful endeavor. We are truly happy to see that during the Midsummer festivities, everything continues: inviting to experience the Summer Solstice in every corner of Latvia,” says Rūta Kārkliņa, the director of the Krišjānis Barons Museum.

“In our museum, Ilga's sung songs have echoed throughout these years, and every year the tradition group “Budēļi” has been with us during this time.”

This year as well, approaching the shortest night of the year, the Krišjānis Barons Museum invites you to repeat the Summer Solstice songs and traditions, and also promises to teach a recipe for “quick cheese.”

Entrance fee: 2 euros, seniors, students: 1 euro.
