Birds See Us
The Rainis Museum “Tadenava” (Dunava, Jēkabpils District) invites children and youth on May 21st at 11:00 AM to meet with poet Inese Zandere and ornithologist and writer Viesturs Ķerus, where they can learn about bird life and birds in poetry.
Inese Zandere's children's poetry collection “Birds See Us” contains more than 40 poems dedicated to birds. The poet has been a member of the Ornithological Society for many years, and it was there that she met professional bird researcher and author of nature-themed children's books, Viesturs Ķerus. Viesturs' book “Korra's World” is a story about the growth and first journey to warm lands of a young European Roller. Both authors will read their works, talk about birds, their voices and habits, offer children a quiz “Which bird's voice has the poet imitated?” as well as other interesting tasks.
Rainis was also a keen bird watcher and wrote poems for children about birds, as well as gave them symbolic meanings in his plays.
Attendance is free of charge, and the event is suitable for children aged 6–14.
The event is financially supported by the State Culture Capital Foundation.
Additionally available are museum exhibitions and educational activities.
