Ice Cream Festival in Rūjiena 2025

Dreaming is beautiful. And dreams should be fulfilled. In Rūjiena, dreams are born and dream ice cream is made. Every year, at the height of spring, the city celebrates the ice cream festival. Then the sun reflects on the faces of smiling children, as they hold the treat of childhood – ice cream.

On May 24th, the ice cream capital Rūjiena invites city residents and guests from all over to meet! From 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, a festival market will take place in the open-air stage area.

At the Ice Cream Festival in Rūjiena, there will be a market and other activities, so the following traffic restrictions are planned from 7:00 AM to 4:00 PM:

From 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, vehicle traffic will be closed from 7 Upes Street to the intersection with Rīgas Street (see visualization).

From 8:00 AM to 11:00 PM, it is planned to install road signs “Stopping Prohibited” and “Maximum Speed Limit” in the specified street sections (see visualization).

We urge residents and drivers to be vigilant and observe the mentioned traffic restrictions. Wishing everyone a peaceful and beautiful festival!

While parents shop at the market, children will enjoy active and creative activities prepared by the Rūjiena Youth Center from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM in the open-air stage area. There will be inflatable attractions, and everyone can participate in Irita Pole's creative workshop, a henna drawing workshop, and try virtual reality glasses.

From 11:00 AM to 11:20 AM, the festival opening will take place at the same location, followed by performances from 11:20 AM to 12:20 PM by the children's vocal ensembles “Dimantiņi” from the Rūjiena Cultural Center, the vocal-instrumental group “Atestāts,” and the children's vocal ensemble “Pērles” from the Mazsalaca Cultural Center.

From 12:00 PM, tickets for the evening concerts and ball can be purchased at the entrance to the open-air stage. The ticket price for all evening events is 10 EUR. Admission is free for children under seven years old, and 7 EUR with a student card or pensioner's certificate. All tickets will be entered into a lottery.

From 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM, at the “Rūjienas saldējums” factory on 5 Upes Street, you can enjoy freshly made ice cream. What could be better than that!

From 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, a show – the science theater “Science Zone” together with Laboratorium.lv will take place in the open-air stage. Everyone will be able to discover the inspiring world of science by conducting interesting experiments in chemistry and physics. By participating in the science theater, you can see various chemical reactions and physical phenomena that may seem incredible or mysterious.

From 2:40 PM to 3:30 PM, a children's dance party and ice cream parade will be demonstrated by the Rūjiena Cultural Center's creative art group “Otiņas” together with leader Diāna Hofmane. 

From 4:00 PM, the paid festival events will begin at the open-air stage. From 4:00 PM to 5:20 PM, a concert with Normunds Rutulis. From 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM, the band “Tumsa” will perform. From 8:00 PM to 8:50 PM, the band “Olas” will fill the stage with music. From 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM, the lucky draw will take place in the festival lottery, and at the end of the day, from 10:00 PM to 2:00 AM, a festival ball with the band “Debespuses.”

Throughout the day, the festive atmosphere will be maintained by Valdis Sils, who studied and performed at the world's most famous improvisational theater “The Second City,” and whose voice can be heard on radio SWH.

The main sponsor of the Ice Cream Festival is SIA “Rūjienas saldējums.” In a special festive mood, with an ice cream tasting prepared especially for the festival day, “Rūjienas saldējums” invites you to visit at 5 Upes Street! The required time for tasting is 1 hour. From 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM for up to 60 people, and from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM for up to 60 people.
