Night of Owlets at Grebļukalns
The event will start at 23:00. To attract the owlets, light lamps will be used, and a representative from the State Forest Service, an entomologist and owlet researcher named Guntis Akmentiņš, will tell the stories about each attracted species of nocturnal owlets. On a backlit screen, various species active at night can be observed and familiarized with for several hours, learning the most important information about owlet species, their lifestyle, and protection.
Two guided walks of approximately 2.5 km each can be taken during the night. It should be noted that it will be night and almost untouched nature, so visitors are encouraged to dress accordingly, take care of their comfort (e.g., bring a cushion to sit on, a flashlight, insect repellent, etc.). There will also be herbal tea served. The event will last until around 3:00 am. The organizers will inform about the options for arrival, as it is important to remember that registration is mandatory.
It must be noted that Grebļukalns is located very close to the border, so every visitor must have their passport or ID card with them, as well as have obtained a special permit in advance with the indication "Visit to the Night of Owlets" on July 15-16, 23. Due to the declared state of emergency at the border, this is a unique opportunity to explore the nature reserve, as it is closed to any other visits at any other time.
