Meeting with the Embroidery Artist

On August 22, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the Rainis Museum “Jasmuiža” (Aizkalne, Preiļi Municipality) in its new event series “Līze’s Craft School” invites you to meet and collaborate with design embroidery artist Irena Steinberga (“Irena Gasha embroideries”).

“Rainis' sister Līze was an excellent craftswoman, so this year we invite you to the traditional craft and culture house for “Līze’s Craft School,” where throughout the season you can learn various unusual as well as well-known craft skills,” says museum specialist Anita Puncule, inviting you to the museum. The first activities in this series will be with design embroidery brand “Irena Gasha embroideries” artist Irena Steinberga.

“This meeting offers a unique opportunity to get to know her creative journey. Learn how her embroidered works come to life, revealing the beauty and technical mastery of craft art that Irena has developed over more than two decades. In the workshop, Irena will unveil the secrets of technical mastery, and everyone will have the chance to try embroidery with a Luneville hook,” the museum states.

The exhibition, which can be viewed at the museum from July 4 to August 31, showcases various embroideries created with high technical mastery. Particularly noteworthy are the works created while studying at the prestigious École Lesage in Paris – they vividly reveal Irena’s individual handwriting, where antique and modern materials, a contemporary perspective, and exceptional technical mastery blend organically.

The artist has gained international recognition, participated in significant exhibitions, and received awards in Paris, Milan, and Tokyo. Her creations can be found in private collections worldwide, and their demand is unceasing. The works on display at the “Jasmuiža” exhibition are part of the artist’s personal collection, which she preserves as a family heritage.
