Tomato Festival in Brenguļi 2025

At the end of summer, on August 30th, the annual Tomato Festival will take place in Brenguļi near the sports center “Kaimiņi”, continuing the tradition of bringing together breeders, tomato growing enthusiasts, and anyone who enjoys serving tomato dishes at home and wants to learn more about tomato cultivation.

In collaboration with Artūrs Sildes' gardener enthusiast club “Tomāts” and Latvian tomato variety collectors, an exhibition featuring approximately 200 different tomato varieties will be available for viewing in Brenguļi from 10:00 AM. These varieties will surprise you with their size, shape, color, and taste characteristics. Participating in the exhibition will be Natālija Zeltiņa from Valmiera Municipality’s Brenguļi Parish, Elga Bražūne and Saiva Pekuse from Ķekava Municipality’s nursery “Neslinko”. Breeders Valdis Pūliņš and Valentina Cuznetova from Talsi will join with tomatoes, watermelons, melons, and cucumbers, and from Riga – Linda Grotupe, Ludmila Kodzasova, and Darja Jureviča. Everyone will be able to find the most suitable varieties for their taste, purchase seeds, and grow them in their garden next year.

Simultaneously, from 10:00 AM, the Tomato Festival's homemade and artisan market will take place in the center of Brenguļi, where more than 70 vendors from various parts of Latvia will offer their products.

At 11:00 AM, the “Heaviest Tomato” contest will begin, weighing and judging which participant managed to grow the largest tomato this year. Continuing the festival, at 12:00 PM, visitors will be delighted with a musical greeting by Aija Legzdiņa from the former group “Māsas Legzdiņas” and her cousin Inga Lazdiņa. The “Culinary Master” contest, with this year's theme “Tomato Spread”, will reveal original ways to incorporate tomatoes into various homemade spreads – both sweet and savory. The tasting dish must be prepared in advance by the contest participants and presented ready for evaluation by the jury and Tomato Festival attendees. The jury will choose the top 3 places, and attendees will select the tastiest spread.

An indispensable part of the Tomato Festival in Brenguļi is the tomato soup prepared by local chef Inguna Vilka, which she will once again serve to visitors this year, while “Beverīnas Drinks” will offer a special tomato cider created for the festival. Fun and movement at the festival will be ensured by various themed activities – try your luck at tomato target throwing, test your strength and endurance by moving tomato crates, and your agility by running an obstacle course with a tomato.
