Traditional and Contemporary. Points of Encounter.
On September 8 at 14:00, Rainis Museum "Jasmuiža" (Aizkalne, Preiļi District) invites you to a conversation on art entitled "Traditional and Contemporary: Points of Encounter" with contemporary ceramics artist Ilona Abdulajeva and twin sisters, textile artists Dace Pudāne and Ilona Linarte-Ruža. The event will also mark the opening of Ilona Abdulajeva's exhibition "Nature – Synthesis".
Until the end of the season on October 31, two exhibitions can be viewed at the museum: the textile art exhibition "United Steps" by sisters Ilona Linarte-Ruža and Dace Pudāne, as well as the ceramics exhibition "Nature – Synthesis" by Ilona Abdulajeva. While each exhibition focuses on a different material – porcelain and textiles – they are united by something common: both exhibitions highlight traditional craft skills in contemporary solutions and experiments.
With the opening of Ilona Abdulajeva's exhibition "Nature – Synthesis" on September 8, all three artists will come together at the museum for a discussion on whether the old merges with the new; if the traditional complements the contemporary; and to what extent contemporary craftsmanship can become a tool in strengthening and preserving cultural identity. It is significant that the exhibitions are showcased in the same building where alongside, in the hall, the impressive collection of Latgale ceramics from "Jasmuiža" is displayed, further emphasizing the coexistence and interaction of traditional and contemporary arts.
