Green Holidays.

On the night of June 21 to 22 at Āraiši Archaeological Park – “Green Holidays: Solstice”.

Āraiši Archaeological Park invites you to experience the special magic of the Solstice on the shortest night of the summer – from June 21 to 22 – at the event “Green Holidays: Solstice”. We welcome Midsummer celebrants from 8:30 PM.

Always the same Midsummer, yet different each year – through thoughts, feelings, actions, and the joy of doing. These festivities are not for spectators, but everyone is invited to participate – becoming Midsummer children, mothers, and fathers, each with their own wealth of experience and knowledge, yet all in a shared atmosphere.

“Let me go, mother, to Midsummer, not every day is Midsummer: Last year was Midsummer, this year is Midsummer, next year, again Midsummer,”

and so year after year, with new feelings and people.

Program of the event:

• Twilight walks in magical flower meadows;
• Stories in the lake castle about the ancient lake castle people;
• Midsummer tradition stories based on Melānija Vanaga’s notes;
• Herb gathering and wreath weaving;
• Ancient rituals and games with the folklore group “Liepa”;
• Fire lighting ritual, bidding farewell to the sun at sunset;
• Dancing and games among the grand oaks, together with the dance group “Raitais solis” accompanied by accordion;
• Evening gatherings and singing;
• Welcoming the sun at dawn with the bright kokle playing of Namejs Kalniņš.

Together we will live out traditions – both ancient and newly created.
