Winter King
The Ukrainian poet Ostap Slyvynsky is already somewhat familiar to Latvian readers. In the year of Maidan, 2014, he attended the Poetry Days himself, recently his “Dictionary of War” was published, and at this event, we will celebrate the release of Slyvynsky's book “Winter King and Other Poems” (Orbīta, 2025) in a special musical and poetic atmosphere.
Most of the poems in this book are from the time before the war – the finer the bridge, which the author masterfully constructs from ancient memories and visions to this time, across which his voice reaches us.
The translations will be read by the book's creators: Māra Poļakova, Arvis Viguls, Ingmāra Balode, Māris Salējs, Jānis Elsbergs. Cello solo – Undīne Balode.
