Christmas Festival: "Orthodox Prayers and Hymns"
The conclusion of the 'Christmas Festival'!
The conclusion of the 'Christmas Festival' on January 7th at 7:00 PM coincides with the time when the Orthodox world celebrates Christmas. Latvian Radio Choir, under the direction of Sigvards Klava, will perform the program 'Orthodox Prayers and Hymns'. The sacred music performances of the Latvian Radio Choir and conductor Sigvards Klava have always moved the hearts of listeners in Latvia and abroad, earning praise from prestigious publications such as Gramophone, The Guardian, and others.
In January, the concert of 'Orthodox Prayers and Hymns' will feature spiritual choral music by Valentīns Silvestrov, Krzysztof Penderecki, and Georgs Pelēcis.
Ukrainian living classic Valentīns Silvestrov is a master of poetic transparency in his music. His artistic statement is: 'Let there be melancholy - it is the soul meeting eternity'. Silvestrov's musical language is akin to the Renaissance with its simplicity and ethereal quality, and in his choral works, one can feel the composer's unparalleled beauty and refinement of sound.
In his sacred choral pieces, Latvian maestro Georgs Pelēcis advocates for beauty, humility, and contemplation of the positive and the longing for the ideal.
On the other hand, Polish composer Krzysztof Penderecki's religious choral works are permeated with human inner sin, the power of revelation, and the ability to see compassion in suffering, which is vividly revealed in his dramatic 'Song of Cherubim'.
'Orthodox Prayers and Hymns' will take place on January 7th at 7:00 PM.
Wishing you a joyful conclusion to the 'Christmas Festival'!
