The Northerner
Poetry by Jānis Ziemeļnieks,Music by Jura Kulakovs and Sven Vilsons.
Jānis Ziemeļnieks, also known asJānis Krauklis, is a Christmas miracle in Latvian literature. Born on Christmas Eve, in the harsh winter of Northern Vidzeme. Throughout his life, he longed for the sun, warmth, understanding, and love. A fragile and sensitive soul, a person with frayed nerve endings, in deep loneliness, yearning for human closeness and support. This essence flows through Ziemeļnieks' poetry. In Latvian literature, he is referred to as a poet of experience, for whom poetry was like psychoanalysis and meditation.
Mārtiņš Vilsons says: The Northerner is genius! I see him as mysterious, enigmatic, with burning eyes that he hides behind black glasses, but he cannot conceal his SOUL, just like addiction. Whatever Ziemeļnieks writes, it always resonates with me as a reminder: '...on the grave, one day green grass will grow for all of us.' Ziemeļnieks reminds us that love fades, that we struggle to be faithful to each other, that we seek happiness where it is not. That we don't know how to burn. About unattainable fulfillment of dreams and longings.
The show 'The Northerner' is complemented and emotionally enriched by Jura Kulakova's songs with the poet's words from the cycle 'Ether's Robe' (2008) and compositions by Sven Vilsons.
The performance features Mārtiņš Vilsons, Svens Vilsons (guitar), and Gustavs Vilsons (double bass).
Costumes for the artists' stage are made by 'Mayra'.
At their home veranda in Upesgrīva, they invite you to enjoy an evening of peace, poetry, and the joy of gathering.
Guests will be welcomed with homemade cheese snacks and delicious golden cocktails.
Before and after the performance, there is an opportunity to take a walk along the sea.
The event is in a narrow circle.
Possibly, a cat will also participate in the event!
The gates will open an hour before the start of the performance. Cars can be parked in the house's courtyard.
The event lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes or until poetic-inspired conversations arise.
During the event, filming and/or photography may take place. By purchasing a ticket and attending, the ticket holder agrees that photos and videos taken during the event, without identifying specific individuals, may be published and used for public information about the event.
In the month of August 2021, Mārtiņš Vilsons opened his home's doors for the event 'Chill in the Countryside at Vilson's Veranda,' where the tranquility of summer evenings and a poetry show could be enjoyed in a home atmosphere. Inspired by the audience, we continue the shows at our home veranda and travel to meet audiences in Latvia.
