Ādolfs Alunāns Memorial Museum Add an Object
The museum dedicated to Ādolfs Alunāns, a playwright born in Jelgava, is located in the house where he spent his last two years of life (1910-1912).
Ādolfs Alunāns (1848 - 1912) is the founding father of Latvian theater, the first professional actor, director, playwright, theater organizer, actor educator, and promoter of theater art. Therefore, the Latvian people have bestowed upon him the honorable title of the father of theater. Jelgava is Alunāns' hometown, where his childhood and school years passed. Here, in his last place of residence, in a charming house on Filozofu Street, the memorial museum of the father of theater is open, where his creative legacy and family belongings are housed. This is the only museum dedicated to the father of Latvian theater.
