Ainaži Maritime School Memorial Museum Add an Object
Located on the Vidzeme coast near the Estonian border is the small town of Ainaži - the cradle of Latvian professional maritime education. It was here in 1864 that local Ainaži sailors, inspired by the maritime enthusiast Krišjānis Valdemārs, established a new type of maritime school - the first school where Latvian and Estonian peasants could learn maritime knowledge free of charge, using their own funds.
The Ainaži Maritime School Museum is a commemorative place dedicated to this first Latvian professional maritime school and its graduates - Latvian and Estonian captains and helmsmen.
