Aizkraukle's Church of St. Therese of the Child Jesus
The first Catholic worship service in Aizkraukle took place on February 10, 1991. On February 28 of the same year, the congregation was registered with the Department of Religious Affairs. The first worship services for the Aizkraukle Catholic congregation were led by the current Cardinal Jānis Pujats. On August 25, 1994, the congregation had its own pastor - Andris Blūms.
On March 3, 1995, land (34.14 ha) was purchased in Aizkraukle, in "Krasti", and that year the construction of the church began (architect Juris Letinskis). A classic church type was used in the construction, where the main function is prayer. For the first time since the war, the most specific detail of a Catholic temple - 2 towers, which denote religious affiliation - is used in the construction of a new church.
On November 1, 1996, Viktor Stulpins was appointed as the pastor in Aizkraukle, and his duties were continued by Andris Blūms from 2010 to 2012.
The church was consecrated on January 16, 2000. It is dedicated to the honor of St. Therese of the Child Jesus. On February 16, 2003, relics of St. Therese were brought from the city of Lisieux in France.
The number of congregation members: approximately 1500 people.
