White Castle
Since the end of 1901, the White Castle has adorned the Baldone hill, always painted in white and thus gaining its name.
Around Mr. Mickiewicz's castle, a beautiful park was created with exotic trees - giant firs, cedar pines, Manchurian cork trees, silver firs, and red oaks.
Over time, the castle was used as a World War I hospital, later as a tuberculosis sanatorium and military headquarters, then as one of the medical departments of a sanatorium, a collective farm dormitory, and finally, a ceremonial hall.
Thanks to the enthusiasm and relentless work of many people, in 1985 the Baldone Music School was officially established in the castle, and later in 1993, the Music Elementary School as well. When Mr. Mickiewicz's great-grandson and his wife arrived from America for the Baldone Music Days, the castle was officially dedicated to the Music Elementary School in 1994.
The White Castle has been renovated and is still surrounded by the park planted in the early 20th century, which with its grandeur and rare plants is included in the list of Latvia's natural monuments. The historical interior of the castle has not been preserved as the premises are used for school needs.
