Bastejkalns Add an Object
After the Crimean War, the Riga City Council decided to demolish the fortifications aroundthe city of Riga, as in the 19th century the city's fortifications no longer had any militarysignificance. The city's fortifications were demolished in 1857. On the land of the fortifications, a15-meter-high artificial hill was built, which was named Bastejkalns.
