Riga Cathedral (also known as Dome Church) is the cathedral of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia, located at Herder Square 6 in Riga. The church is home to the Riga Dome Evangelical Lutheran Congregation, the largest medieval church in the Baltic States and a national architectural monument. The Riga Cathedral and monastery complex are properties belonging to the Latvian state and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Latvia. The foundation stone of the St. Mary's Cathedral, also known as the Riga Dome or the Livonian Bishop's Residence, was laid on July 25, 1211. The solemn ceremony was conducted by Bishop Albert. The Riga Dome actively serves as a place of worship for the congregation. Regular services are held on Sundays and weekdays. Special services take place at the Riga Dome during national holidays and various state events. The Riga Dome also continues to function as a concert hall.
