Durbe Manor Add an Object

Durbe Manor was built in 1671 and has been reconstructed several times. It is the only one among the former manor houses in Latvia where the historical interiors of the late 19th and early 20th century have been fully restored, providing an insight into the German-Baltic culture. Durbe Manor is considered one of the pearls of Kurzeme's classicist architecture.

The ensemble of Durbe Manor consists of several buildings: the manor house, the farm building, the servants' house, the park with a rotunda designed by Berlitz, and two stone bridges.

The historical interiors on the first floor of the manor include a study, a library, a grand hall, a circular hall, a salon, and other rooms. On the second floor, there are cultural-historical research exhibitions on current and less researched topics in history and art history, including the poet Rainis and his connection to Tukums and Durbe Manor.

In 1923, after the manor house was handed over to Rainis, he arranged a family holiday home for teachers in the building. After the poet's death in 1929, Rainis Museum was established there. The building has changed its status several times, primarily being a sanatorium or a hospital, until the restoration of Latvia's independence. During this time, the Tukums municipality handed over the manor house and the adjacent buildings to Tukums Museum.

The museum offers guided tours, educational programs, and competency-based educational programs for students. Classical music concerts are also held in the manor rooms, and it is possible to organize wedding programs for newlyweds.
