Jelgava Museum of History and Art of Ģederts Elias Add an Object
The museum building, known by the historical name Academia Petrina, was built in 1775 on the site of the former ducal city castle, inspired by the last Duke of Courland and Semigallia, Peter Biron. It was home to the first university in Latvia. The architect of the reconstruction project is S. Jensens. The most valuable part of the museum's collection is the collection of works by Latvian master painter Ģederts Elias (1887-1975), some of which can be seen in the permanent exhibition of the painter's works.
