Karosta, also known as Karaosta or Kara osta, is a part of the city of Liepāja. Liepāja Karosta occupies approximately one-third of the total area of the city in its northern part. Karosta is a unique complex of military and fortification structures on the coast of the Baltic Sea, which holds a special place in the history and architecture of Latvia and the world. The buildings exhibit a contrast between the Russian military elegance and Soviet militarism. Karosta is a popular tourist attraction today.
