In the early 20th century, there were many Catholic workers living in Sarkandaugava. In November 1909, a meeting was held in the premises of the society "Pavasaris" to discuss the construction of a Catholic church in Sarkandaugava. The meeting was chaired by the priest M. Dukaļskis. The consecration of the church took place on April 26, 1943, with the participation of His Eminence Metropolitan A. Springovič and the clergy of Riga, as well as a large number of faithful.
