Latgale Cultural History Museum Add an Object
The museum has been housed in the building since the 1930s, but the Cultural History Museum was established only in 1959 as a branch of the Ludza District Research Museum. In 1960, it started operating independently as the Rēzekne District Research Museum. During this time, the museum hosted its first exhibition. In 1989, a reading room was opened to visitors, and in 1990, with changes in the content and nature of the collection, it was renamed the Latgale Cultural History Museum. In 1996, a new three-story building, the LKM Exhibition House, was put into operation next to the old museum building. After the museum's reconstruction in 2010, the old building and the exhibition house were merged into one building, with an extension built between them, and general reconstruction works were carried out in both existing buildings.
