Lejas Bregži Add an Object

Lejas Bregži is located on both banks of the Gauja River, between Valmiera and Cēsis, in the former Brieži, Strīķi, Lenči, and Liepa parishes. From the late 18th century to the 1940s, chairmakers worked here. The Chairmaker's Settlement is a museum where the housekeeper, ceramicist Īrisa Vainovska, will talk about the ancient chairmakers, demonstrate the comfort of woven chairs, and showcase a collection of items, as well as two short films made in 1978.

Here you can see a collection of woven chairs, clay products, and beautiful surroundings. Both adults and children can try their hand at working with clay and creating something. Various crafts are also available for purchase.

The Chairmaker's Settlement offers a wonderful location for wedding ceremonies. Wedding guests can participate in a happiness ritual with stones in the Room of Four Winds. The newlyweds can create clay gifts for each other and write wishes on a freshly thrown honey pot, which will remain a memory for a lifetime.

In addition to wedding ceremonies, the Chairmaker's Settlement also offers practical workshops and activities for children and the whole family.
